After a 2 year break, BCSDC returns to the dance floor. Last year our members indicated that they want a cautious return to the dance floor. We will start with a 90 minute, in-person, non-partnered musicality and solo movement workshop with Amy Shibasaki on FRIDAY March 25. There will not be a social dance in March, but we will consider a return to social dancing in April. We will be running our events on Friday nights until Confederation Centre is allowed to re-open on weekends.
Workshop topic:
It happens to all of us: we know something interesting is coming up in the music, and while we’re desperately trying to think of something – anything – to do to accent it, it’s comes up … and then it’s gone. And we’re still stuck for ideas.
The workshop isn’t guaranteed to yank you out of that mire, but it does provide some ideas that are easy to execute on your own, without having to rely on your partner. So the next time you hear that big hit in the music coming, you’ll have a “bag of tricks” to draw from.
Following the workshop there will be time to practice and refine what you have just learned, and to socialize with people you probably haven’t seen in over 2 years!
The instructor:
Nicknamed “The Poster Child for People Who Can’t Dance” by her friends, Amy Shibasaki has been dancing for over 20 years and teaching WCS with her husband Michael for over 10 years. She has competed and placed in multiple competitions, including the US Open, and she did it without having an innate sense of music or rhythm. In this workshop, Amy shares some of her secrets for dancing musically and looking awesome on the dance floor when you don’t actually know the music.
Price: $15 member / $20 non-member
You must preregister via the link below for this event; we will not accept payment at the door.
There will NOT be a social dance at this event.
