New Music Night #3

New Music Night

Join us for another New Music Night hosted by our club President, Amanda! She has curated a selection of new songs that will hopefully make you want to get up and dance. We’ll listen to each song (maybe even dance a bit) and then talk about why we like it or hate it, as well as go over places you can go to find new music.

Come participate in the debate, put on your shoes and dance, or just sit back and listen – how much you participate is up to you. The only prerequisite is having an opinion about music 🙂

Have a new song you love (or hate) that you think we should include? Post it in the discussion below!

A little bit about Amanda: she is technically not a WCS DJ (she tried it once), but she has been dancing for 15 years in a variety of styles (both partnered and solo) and has developed some strong opinions about music. She also listens to music every waking hour (not an exaggeration) and has compiled a massive list of WCS-ish songs released since March. She’s eager to hear what you think of her selections.

Line Dance class: “Have Fun Go Mad” / “Shake That”

“Have Fun Go Mad” is a famous line dance choreographed by Scott Blevins. It became popular in the West Coast Swing world thanks to a westie pro PJ Turner who regularly teaches this line dance at dance conventions but usually to a different song – “Shake That” by Eminem.

On Wed Nov 18th you will have a chance to learn this fun line dance in a virtual class with local dancer Nela Subrtova.

Nela has tried many different styles of dance but found her true passion when she discovered West Coast Swing. In fact, one of the reasons why she moved to Vancouver was because of the vibrant WCS community. For the past 6 years she has been exploring different elements of the dance: from social dancing, through competing, to performing and even a little bit of teaching.

The class will be 90 mins to make sure that we have enough time not only to learn the dance but to also practice and dance it to a full song a few times. We will use both songs in the class: “Have Fun Go Mad” by Blair and “Shake That” by Eminem.

If you’d like to see what the dance looks like you can watch this YouTube video from PJ Turner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu_scXv0goY&t=51s or this group of dancers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwMW786jJfU

Join Nela in our next virtual event to learn this fun dance.
