March Dance

Come one, come all to the BC Swing Dance March dance on March 9th!

We’re holding our dance at the usual time (6:30 doors, 7 lesson, 8-11 dance) at the Confederation Centre. DJ Jason Brown is taking a break for March so we will be having DJ Ponytail Chris Dewhurst spinning the electronic records *all night long.

Come learn the mysteries of Guillotine Whips with Dave and Claudia. Just what are they? Google sure doesn’t know, so the only way to find out will be to come to the lesson!

Our usual prices are in effect – the lesson is $5 for members, $7 for guests, and the dance is $10 for members, $13 for guests. Students get in cheap too! Hope to see you there 🙂

*Not really, the dance is still contractually obligated to end at 11PM. Sorry.

AGM Package

Our Annual General Meeting wrapped up on Saturday, February 9th. Thank you to all those that attended. We had some good conversations and successfully elected a new board. Stay tuned for a post on the new board, but in the meantime, if you missed the AGM, you can find the package given out in the link below. Information includes the club’s financials, adopted budget for 2019, and letters about the progress the club made in 2018.

February Dance and AGM

What a year it’s been! The BC Swing Dance, in its 21st year, has seen record numbers, has experimented with new dance locations, hosted an intensive by BAMEO, and held a dozen dances.

AGM (and Free Pizza) INFO

Join us on Saturday, February 9th for our Annual General Meeting. We will be recapping the year and talking about what the executive board’s been up to, have a full panel of board members to answer your questions about the club (and inevitably talk about the music), and be electing new board members for the 2019/2020 year.

As you may know, the BC Swing Dance Club is a non-profit club entirely run by the volunteers comprising the Board of Executives. This club hosts the largest West Coast Swing dance in BC (outside of Swingcouver) monthly, which requires promotion, organization, and pure volunteer hours to  keep it going and growing.

Some members of the current board have put in their time and are retiring from their positions after years of volunteering. There is a need for new board members to take their place to ensure the club can properly run and put on the events that we plan every year.

If you are a member of the BC Swing Dance Club, you are eligible to take part in the AGM and vote on the board of directors. And, *YOU* are also eligible to be on the board of directors. Every position is up for election every year, including President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and members at large, and we need people to step into these positions.

So, please come to the AGM, enjoy the complimentary pizza that will be provided, and put your name into the hat for a rewarding volunteer position that will help shape West Coast Swing in the lower mainland (and maybe farther soon!). WE WANT YOU!

DANCE INFO

If you’re not coming to the AGM, we will also be hosting our regular dance on the same night, January 9th, from 8PM to 11PM. Because of the AGM, we will not have lessons.

Location: 4585 Albert St, Burnaby BC (Confederation Center). There is lots of free parking here!

Cost: Dance is $10 for members, $13 for guests, and $7 for students with IDs.

Swingcouver Intensive Draw

John Kirkconnell and the SwingCouver 2019 – The Next Episode crew have generously donated a Swingcouver intensive pass for the BC Swing Club to give away. The winner will get to choose between Jordan and Tatiana’s “FUNtensive”, Benji Schwimmer’s “Inside the Mind of a Champion”, or Robert Royston’s “Traits of a Teacher”.

We will be running a raffle and announcing the winner on, Tuesday January 22nd. To enter you must:

(1) be a BCSDC member (a 2018 membership that has not yet been renewed for 2019 is ok) and

(2) be already attending Swingcouver (this is NOT a Swingcouver weekend pass).

If you qualify send an email to info@bcswingdance.ca, or a private message to us here, to be entered into the raffle.

Good luck to you all!
