Dave and Claudia Start Off the Year Right With the BCSDC Dance

Welcome to 2020! We’re getting ready to host our first dance of the year, so that means it is also time to renew your membership. If you don’t want to wait until the dance to renew you can do it online from our website: https://bcswingdance.ca/index.php/2020-membership/

On dance will be on Saturday, January 25th. Doors open at 6:30, the lessons start at 7-8PM (beginner and intermediate lessons are at the same time) and the dance runs from 8-11PM.

David Tolksdorff and Claudia Houwers will be teaching our Intermediate workshop this month. The topic of their class will be “New Year’s Illusion Resolution”. Remember – it’s not a trick, it’s an illusion!

Dave and Claudia have been dancing together for 9 years. They both love dancing and prior to getting together they both danced a variety of styles including ballroom, west coast swing and salsa. They’ve been teaching WCS together for a number of years and enjoy sharing their passion for dance with others.

December Dance!

Come to the BC Swing Dance Club’s XMas Potluck, Party, and Dance!

Join us Saturday December 14 for the annual BC Swing Dance Club holiday dance, potluck, and door prizes. Please share this event invitation with your Facebook friends.

We will have an extra hour of dancing for your pleasure for the same low price. The doors will open at 6:30 pm, lessons 7:00-8:00, and dancing 8:00-midnight. We are also hosting a potluck so please bring your favourite finger food to share. And we will continue our tradition of giving out door prizes.

Pamela Podmoroff will be teaching our intermediate level West Coast Swing workshop, a WCS line dance with a groovy, Christmas twist. More and more WCS dancers are learning the benefits of solo practice of footwork, styling, syncopation, and moves. Come learn a popular WCS line dance that is being performed at many WCS dance conventions, but with added holiday spirit 🎄! ‘Tis the season to find your dance groove and spread some holiday moves.

Pamela is a successful All star level competitive West Coast Swing dancer with a technical background in ballet, jazz, tap and modern. She began partner dancing through ballroom teacher training 20 years ago and her dance background also includes competitive country dancing. Even after 16 years of teaching and exploring a variety of dances, West Coast Swing continues to be her passion! Pamela is excited to work on adding footwork and styling in your West Coast Swing.

Michael and Amy Shibasaki will be teaching the free beginner class. Their story began in 2008 when they met at a west coast swing dance and decided to become practice partners to improve their dancing. Along the way, Michael and Amy fell in love and got married. Now they want to share our love of the dance with you – by offering you a friendly, relaxed learning environment to get you comfortable enough to have lots of fun on the dance floor. Both currently compete several times a year (at Advanced and Intermediate level) and continuously look to upgrade and hone their teaching and dance skills.

We will have two DJs splitting the music playing duties in December. Our regular DJ Jason Brown will kick off the night before handing off to Rick Gillespie to finish the night.

November Dance

“It’s what I always wanted to do, to show the laughter, the fun, the joy of dance.”

Elizabeth Hudgins will be teaching our intermediate workshop, which will be “Accessorize your swing — Adding syncopation and style to your dancing.” Elizabeth is an accomplished dancer and teacher. With her husband Graeme Oxendale, she has run the successful Urban Beat Dance Company in Vancouver BC since 1999, bringing dance to life for thousands of people in Vancouver. She has been dancing for 25 years and has over 15 years of experience teaching several dance styles including Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Hip Hop, and Country Two-Step. She has training in jazz, ballet, and modern which provide basic knowledge of movement and technique but her real passion is for social dancing. Her training in so many styles of dance gives her a solid foundation in the technique and art of social dance. Elizabeth’s dancing has been seen on City TV, Urban Rush, CBC and the Life Network.
