August 29th Beginner Lesson and Dance!

It’s August, and we’re having a dance! Soak up the sun (somewhere else) and then dance the night away with us!

Where: Bonsor Recreation Complex, 6550 Bonsor Avenue, Burnaby, BC V5H 3G4 (in the “Banquet Hall”)
When: Saturday August 29th, 2026
Doors: 6:15 pm
Free Beginner Lesson with Dalynne: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Social Dance: 8:00 pm – 11:30 pm
(No Intermediate lesson this month.)

Late Entry: If you show up any time after Bonsor’s public operating hours (i.e. after 9:00pm) and the front doors are locked, please walk around the outside of the building to the patio doors at the side of the Banquet Hall to get in (and walk to the BC Swing desk to check in). Staff have asked us to avoid walking through the building when it is closed. Note that the latest entry time to our dance is 10:00 pm.

Your DJs for the night will be: DJ TJ and DJ Dalynne!

The FREE beginner lesson will be taught by Dalynne Roberts!
Dalynne has been dancing West Coast Swing for the past 10 years and travels to compete in improvisation competitions. She is trained in the Swing Literacy Development Method, and teaches Intro to WCS classes at SwingSoul Sundays at the DanceVancouver studio. A natural teacher, speaker, and entertainer, Dalynne is passionate about making every human feel welcome, included, and inspired.

Social Dance: Members: $12 / Non-Members: $15 / Students: $7

For the safety of everyone, please do not bring breakable water bottles (glass, ceramic, etc.) into the dance areas.
Please avoid wearing strong scents/perfumes.

When: Saturday June 20th, 2026. Doors: 3:45 pm

4:00pm-7:00pm: INTERNATIONAL RALLY WCS CHOREOGRAPHY WITH MICHAEL AND AMY
–> in the Active Studio (at the top of the stairs, go straight)*
–> 3-hour workshop to learn the 2026 choreography for the International Rally.

–> Your Instructors: Michael and Amy met at a BCSDC dance and decided to become practice partners to improve their dancing. Along the way, they fell in love and got married. Now they share their love of the dance with the community. They teach group lessons in Burnaby and Vancouver, and workshops around BC.

–> An intro to the basics of West Coast Swing!

–> Your Instructor: Ian Kirkconnell has been a stalwart in the Vancouver Dance Community as a teacher for several decades. He has introduced a great many students into the West Coast Swing community and is proud of their accomplishments, including 2 champion level teachers. He is also an active competitor.

The FREE beginner lesson will be taught by Inna Stetsiak!

Inna’s strong performing arts foundation includes 7 years of classical piano and Ukrainian folk dancing in her Elementary years, which expanded later with Argentine Tango, Salsa, Bachata and Hip Hop. But West Coast Swing has truly captured her heart. She has placed top 3 in different levels of improvisational competitions in both roles as well as in the Rising Star routine division throughout North America. She is regularly teaching at Dancing for Dessert and SwingSoul, and also deejays local social dance nights, combining her musical knowledge with her love for dance.

*No genetic testing is required to attend. There’s no theme. This is a normal dance

April 18th Lessons & Dance!

Our next dance will be coming up on Saturday April 18th, and it’s at a special location: Victoria Drive Community Hall! We’re offering an extended afternoon of activities featuring a FREE Beginner Lesson with Dalynne Roberts, followed by a guided practice social dance for beginners, open practice time for all levels, and an Intermediate Lesson with Henry Hwi.

(Yes, this daylight savings time, we sprung forward a little too far and skipped March. See further explanation at the bottom.*)

April 18th Event Details:

3:15pm –> Doors

3:30-5:00pm –> FREE Beginner Lesson
Enjoy a lively lesson led by Dalynne Roberts. Learn West Coast Swing basics for the first time, or use the lesson to solidify your dance moves!

5:00-5:30pm –> FREE Guided Practice Social Dance
This is designed to help the beginners who have just finished their lesson get comfortable with dancing socially with random partners out in the wild! All levels of dancers are welcome to join and support the beginners.

5:30-6:30pm –> Open Practice
The hall will be open for practice time. This hour is free of charge, but donations are always welcome.

6:30-7:30pm –> Intermediate Lesson
Taught by Henry Hwi, this lesson will focus on dancing on, to, and with the ‘“1” of the music.
Henry has been dancing for over 11 years. He started with Salsa and other Latin dance forms, and dabbled with International Ballroom before finding his home with West Coast Swing. Since then, he has increased his WCS dance expression with Tap and Hip Hop.

7:30-10:30pm –> Social Dance!

We looked long and hard to find a suitable alternative, but we were — unfortunately — not able to secure a venue for March. However! We’re so excited to see you in April for the above-mentioned Beginner and Intermediate Lessons at Victoria Drive Community Hall. Again, please note the special location for April 18th!
